Dakshina Kannada Milk Union Reports ₹1,174 Crore Turnover
The Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (DKMUL), which operates in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, reported its highest annual turnover of ₹1,174 crore and a record net profit of ₹12.79 crore. Union president Sucharitha Shetty presented the figures at a press conference in Mangaluru.
Average daily milk procurement reached 3.97 lakh litres, an increase of 16% from the previous year. DKMUL’s daily sales averaged 4.02 lakh litres of liquid milk and 81,000kg of curd.
The union said its base procurement payment to local farmers was ₹40.76 per litre. Its farmer welfare trust covers almost 55,000 members affiliated with 751 primary cooperative societies. During the past year, the trust paid ₹2.05 crore towards emergency medical costs, family difficulties and losses involving livestock.
More than 30,000 cattle were covered by the union’s livestock insurance programme. DKMUL processed 1,177 verified claims for animal deaths and related indemnity payments. It also set aside ₹2.6 crore in direct support for green-fodder cultivation, farm machinery and the creation of mini-dairy units.
A cattle deworming drive is planned across all 751 member societies, with a budget of ₹8 lakh. DKMUL also said it was preparing to use embryo-transfer methods involving genetically superior donor cows. The measure was listed among its plans for improving herd productivity and animal husbandry services.
Under the Nandini brand, the cooperative is preparing Guava Chilly Lassi, Nandini Protein Punch and whey-based functional drinks. It has commissioned vacuum thermoforming equipment and new paneer-packing machinery. Other projects include a regional administrative centre in Udupi and civil works for a dedicated water supply to its processing dairies.
