Cow Tourism: UP Government Eyes New Opportunities in Agri-Tourism
The Uttar Pradesh government is venturing into a unique economic strategy by launching 'Cow Tourism' to boost the rural economy and financially sustain local cow shelters. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spearheads the initiative to establish an ideal cow shelter in every district. These shelters aim to be self-reliant and become tourist attractions in the state's growing agri-tourism sector. A key element of the program is to promote the commercial use of cow-based products, diversifying revenue streams for the shelters. The government plans to market cow dung, urine, milk, and ghee, striving to build an indigenous industry that supports local communities.

Women’s self-help groups will play a crucial role in producing and marketing items derived from cow dung. The initiative includes a large-scale campaign to increase the demand for eco-friendly products like cow dung lamps, especially during the Diwali festival. Minister Dharampal Singh confirmed a major drive to promote these items, encouraging citizens to support the 'Vocal for Local' spirit. Principal Secretary Mukesh Meshram stressed precision in local-level plans for cow dung and urine utilization to ensure cow shelters' self-reliance while strengthening Uttar Pradesh's rural economy through livestock-centric enterprises.
