Starting February 8, 2025, China will enforce three new national standards under the GB category. In early 2024, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) and the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) announced the adoption of these regulations alongside others. The new mandates impose compulsory requirements on both domestic and imported products within the Chinese market.
China Implements New GB Standards for Dairy Products, Food Additives, and Packaging

Key Changes

Dried Milk and Modified Dried Milk (GB 19644-2024)

Stricter requirements for raw materials, organoleptic properties (taste, color, odor), and physicochemical indicators (fat content, moisture). Introduction of stringent limits on impurities, mycotoxins, and microorganisms. Mandatory detailed labeling regulations specifying composition and storage conditions.

Adhesives for Food Packaging (GB 4806.15-2024)

Additional restrictions on raw materials and chemical composition for adhesives that come into contact with food. Manufacturers must include safety information about materials on product labels.

Food Additives (GB 2760-2024)

New combined limits for sweeteners (aspartame, acesulfame) in products of the same category. Flavorings with additional functions, such as preservatives, are now permitted only as essences for flavoring purposes.

Why Does This Matter?

The new standards aim to combat counterfeiting, mitigate health risks, and unify requirements for manufacturers. Special emphasis is placed on labeling, ensuring consumers receive clearer information about product composition.

For businesses, companies must comply with the new regulations by February 8. Violations may result in fines and product removal from the market.
