Significant Growth in Chilean Dairy Exports
In a stark departure from 2023, Chilean dairy exports closed 2024 on a high note, reflecting favorable numbers due to increased demand from key markets including Brazil and Colombia, alongside stable buyers like the United States and Mexico. New markets such as Southeast Asia have also begun to emerge.
Record-Breaking Figures
According to data from the Foreign Trade Bulletin of Dairy Products, compiled by the Chilean Office of Agrarian Studies and Policies (Odepa) and shared by the National Federation of Milk Producers (Fedeleche), the total export value from January to December 2024 reached $261.9 million, marking a 15.6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Key Destinations and Product Insights
The U.S. remains the top destination for Chilean dairy products, accounting for 22.7% of total exports, equating to $59.4 million—a 16.3% rise from the previous year.
In Europe, the United Arab Emirates dropped to third place, with their share decreasing by 1.6% to $33.3 million. *
Colombia, meanwhile, witnessed a substantial 80.9% increase, contributing $26.1 million to Chile's export revenues in 2024.
Brazil ascended to fifth place with a remarkable 170.8% increase, contributing $20.7 million, while Peru witnessed a 7.6% rise to $20.5 million.
Breakdown by Product
Condensed milk led the export categories, making up 25.5% of exports at $67.0 million, up by 9.2% from last year. Cheese shipments rose by 16.9% to $39.9 million, while whole milk powder exports increased by an astounding 145%, reaching $37.4 million.
The aforementioned trends underline Chile’s growing positioning in the global dairy export arena.
