Caquetá Achieves Exclusive Dairy Certification Granted by Asocebú

In a significant milestone for Colombian agriculture, El Progreso farm, located in La Montañita, Caquetá, has been awarded a unique dairy certification by Asocebú. This certification confirms that the farm's milk production consists entirely of A2A2 beta casein, achieved through over a decade of work in reproductive biotechnology including in vitro fertilization and genetic selection.
Only two facilities in Colombia hold this certification for Cebu cattle, reflecting El Progreso's pioneering efforts in breeding cattle with the A2A2 genotype. With around 107 cows producing approximately 1,000 liters of milk daily, this certification positions the farm as a benchmark for quality and genetic innovation.
Despite this achievement, the market has yet to fully recognize the value of A2A2 milk. According to technical assistant Luis Hernando Ortiz Paladines, current pricing does not reflect the benefits of this milk variety, which is praised for its easier digestibility. Ortiz suggests that a legitimate market price should range from 2,700 to 3,000 pesos per liter in Colombia.
Additionally, El Progreso maintains certifications for brucellosis and tuberculosis and follows Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). It also garnered accolades in the Gyr and Red Sindhi cattle categories at Asocebú exhibitions in 2024.
