The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Sofia has officially charged a Bulgarian entrepreneur with fraud connected to the construction of a dairy facility. Accusations assert that the entrepreneur used counterfeit documents to illicitly secure European Union funds designated for the project.
Bulgarian Entrepreneur Charged with Fraud Over EU-Funded Dairy Facility
The individual, a manager of a company, allegedly manipulated the funding process by submitting false bank guarantees to receive an advance payment of €237,000, which constitutes half of the total EU support of €474,000. These funds were originally approved to aid in building a facility intended for processing raw milk and producing dairy products.

Authorities claim that the accused altered an initial bank guarantee to meet the funding criteria after being initially rejected by the payment agency. This act of forgery led to the unauthorized release of funds. Further investigations revealed that the construction work for the dairy facility, as stipulated in the funding agreement, was never carried out.

The charges could lead to a significant prison term for the defendant, ranging from two to eight years if convicted.

The accused and all related parties remain presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law. This case will proceed under the scrutiny of the competent Bulgarian courts.
