Brownes Dairy Put Up for Sale Amid Parent Company Turmoil

Brownes Dairy, a storied Western Australian dairy brand founded in 1886, has been placed on the market due to its parent company, Australian Zhiran Co (AZC), entering receivership. Despite the upheaval, Brownes Dairy itself remains financially stable and continues normal operations, selling products such as milk, yogurt, cheese, and flavored coffee through major retailers like Coles, Woolworths, and IGA.

The restructuring firm McGrathNicol has been appointed receiver of AZC’s shares, acting on behalf of Mengniu Dairy, a significant lender. Keith Crawford, McGrathNicol’s partner, reassures stakeholders, stating: "We are engaging with key stakeholders to commence an orderly sale process for the iconic Brownes Dairy. As our appointment is limited to holding company shares only, we do not anticipate any impact on day-to-day operations."

Stakeholders and customers remain watchful as a sale process is underway for one of the state's most enduring dairy brands, with hopes it will attract buyers who appreciate its deep-rooted legacy and future potential.
