Alileche Begins Distribution in Edomex, Mexico City and Colima
Alileche, an agro-industrial company supported by dairy farmers from Aguascalientes, announced on September 10 that it was extending its commercial reach to the State of Mexico, Mexico City and Colima. The move takes the producer beyond its established markets in the Bajío and west-central regions of Mexico and into densely populated urban areas.
The company’s products include fluid pasteurised and ultra-pasteurised milk made entirely from cow’s milk. The milk is collected daily at technologically equipped farms in Aguascalientes. Alileche presents origin, freshness and traceability as product attributes, along with the presence of natural milk fat and protein.
The brand’s expansion is intended to establish a formal sales channel in the three new markets. Its products will compete with multinational dairy companies and private-label goods sold by supermarket chains, as well as with other products available through convenience stores and traditional grocery outlets.
For producers in Aguascalientes, the new destinations increase the outlets available for the sale of processed fluid milk. The source says that formal sales can reduce reliance on intermediaries who lower prices paid at the farm gate. Dairy operations in the state face high costs for feed, alfalfa, electricity, milking systems and refrigerated storage tanks.
Distribution in the Valley of Mexico and western Mexico will require continuous refrigeration and delivery within the time limits set for retail shelves. Alileche will also need distribution arrangements with supermarkets, convenience stores and traditional retailers to serve the new territories.
The expansion forms part of a vertical-integration model used by producer associations in Mexico. Under that model, farmers move beyond selling unprocessed milk by converting local production into branded, finished goods. Alileche is the representative brand of Aguascalientes’s dairy basin and is promoted as milk sourced from the state’s farms.
