The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation, Aavin, initiates automation of its dairy unit in Kottapattu near Trichy, aiming to improve milk quality and reduce production loss.

Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (Aavin) has launched preliminary work to automate its dairy unit at Kottapattu near Trichy international airport. The modernization process, with an investment of ₹3.3 crore, aims to convert the 20-year-old milk processing unit into a fully automated and digitally monitored unit.
Currently, the processing and packaging of raw chilled milk involve manual operations, which can lead to milk loss and reduced quality. To address these issues, Aavin plans to replace manual valves with electric and pneumatic equivalents, integrating control panels and sensors to automate operations and improve efficiency. This initiative is expected to reduce milk solids loss from 0.7% to 0.4%, enhancing overall product quality and customer satisfaction.
The automation work is scheduled to begin in May and complete within eight months, during which manual processing will continue. This move highlights Aavin’s commitment to leveraging technology to streamline operations and cater to the increasing quality demands of consumers.
