A fire struck an Essa dairy farm barn without injuring animals

New Tecumseth Fire responded at about 6:05 p.m. to a report of a barn fire on 5 Sideroad in Essa. The property contains several barns and is operated as a large Holstein dairy farm.

When crews arrived, flames were visible in one of the barns. New Tecumseth Fire requested assistance from Essa Fire and Adjala-Tosorontio Fire to help manage the incident.

Fire Chief Dan Heydon said firefighters entered the building to attack the fire from inside. They restricted the main blaze to one section, although flames reached the barn’s upper level and roof area.

After roughly an hour, firefighters had brought the fire under control. The participating fire services then left the property, according to the report.

Animals were taken out of the affected area, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire had not been established, and officials had not provided an estimate of the damage. The property owner was working to resume milking operations.
