In 2023, the International Dairy Federation celebrates its 120th anniversary

“For 120 years, the International Dairy Federation has contributed to the development of standards for the dairy sector and has worked closely with all dairy regulatory organizations to share experience in the field of milk production and processing, in establishing international safe, sustainable and fair trade,” said Piercristiano Brazzale.
Today, IDF makes a significant contribution to the development of healthy nutrition for the world's population, the creation of sustainable food systems, and the development of sustainable and environmentally responsible dairy production.
At the moment, the global dairy industry is facing serious modern challenges:
- socio-political pressure on the livestock sector,
- growing threats to food security,
- active regulation by international and national regulatory authorities: sugar, salt and fat content in products, strict regulation of information on packaging, sugar taxes, marketing bans, creation of state-approved diets, etc.,
- increasing the diversity of proteins in the food industry,
- statements about the more environmentally friendly production of plant-based products,
- important, science-based statements about the food industry on social media.
Today's IDF activities are dedicated to solving these pressing problems.
Today, the IDF structure includes 17 committees and 5 task groups, and more than 150 projects - dynamic programs - are being implemented. In 2022-23, 9 bulletins, 3 reports, as well as 8 joint (IDF/ISO) standards were developed.
Priority projects for 2023: harmonization of food additive regulations with the dairy standard and the general provisions of the Codex Alimentarius, creation of a knowledge base on contaminants - IDF guidelines on detergents and disinfectants, IDF recommendations on water reuse, development of a concept of the role of dairy products in a healthy diet , further development of the School Milk program.
