US Dairy Checkoff Unveils Comprehensive Sustainability Resource Hub for Industry Professionals
Streamlined Access to Sustainability Practices
The Dairy Conservation Navigator consolidates input from over 70 experts, offering a curated list of more than 80 environmentally beneficial practices. These practices address critical areas such as nutrient management, methane reduction, soil health, and manure handling. Each entry features detailed summaries, including implementation considerations, environmental benefits, and potential funding opportunities.
“Sustainability often feels overwhelming due to scattered information,” said Bridgett Hilshey, Senior Director of Sustainability Projects at Dairy Management Inc. (DMI). “Our aim is to simplify the process by creating a single, reliable platform that delivers scientifically validated solutions tailored to dairy farming.”
Customizable and Cutting-Edge Solutions
The platform features a filterable database, allowing users to search for solutions aligned with their specific needs. In addition to established practices, the Navigator includes insights on emerging technologies and innovative sustainability methods poised to reshape the dairy sector.
DMI has also collaborated with experts to develop free educational courses covering topics like carbon markets, environmental modeling, and water conservation. These courses aim to equip users with actionable knowledge for navigating sustainability challenges effectively.
Bridging the Sustainability Knowledge Gap
Jacqi Coleman, Senior Vice President of Sustainability Partnerships for DMI, highlighted the Navigator’s role in addressing industry demands for clarity on sustainability practices. “We aim to make sustainability accessible by providing comprehensive, science-based information,” Coleman stated. “This resource helps users stay informed and proactive in meeting evolving environmental expectations.”
Living Resource for a Dynamic Industry
Designed for professionals across the agricultural ecosystem—including veterinarians, agronomists, conservationists, and financial advisors—the Dairy Conservation Navigator will be continually updated to reflect the latest research, field trials, and technological advancements.
“Sustainability is a constantly evolving field, and our commitment is to ensure this tool keeps pace,” added Hilshey. “We envision it as a dynamic resource that grows alongside the industry’s needs.”
