This strategic approach to feeding is essential as it constitutes the largest part of production costs. Nutritional imbalances can quickly lead to reduced milk volumes.

The production cycle also influences output, with cows reaching peak production in the first 60 days post-calving before stabilizing and eventually declining. Comparing cows at different stages of lactation can lead to incorrect assessments of performance.

Technological advancements have become integral to modern dairy farming. Tools like rumination sensors, smart collars, management software, and automated milking systems allow farmers to monitor animal behavior in real-time, quickly identifying issues that may affect productivity.

This technological shift has contributed to a notable change in Brazilian dairy farming: an increase in total milk production despite a decrease in the number of milked cows. This trend highlights a shift from herd expansion to improving individual cow efficiency, marking a significant evolution in the sector.
