Fr om April 14 to 18, 2025, the COWOW team — a sponsor of the Dairy Olympics 2025 — embarked on an extensive business trip to South America, specifically to the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil, wh ere the cattle population is one of the largest in the country and agriculture is the main driving force of the state's economy.

As part of intergovernmental contacts, the Brazilian side proposed a set of challenges to the Cowow team back in the summer of 2024 to help address key issues in the country’s livestock sector, namely:

  • Early detection of mastitis and reduction of disease incidence in animals;

  • Identification of latent diseases and infections during the quarantine period for exported livestock;

  • Preparation of animals for export and pre-sale health checks;

  • Determination of the causes behind weight loss in cows.

Providing solutions to these challenges was the primary objective of the trip, which also included the presentation and demonstration of the technological capabilities of the Cowow system — designed for early detection and monitoring of diseases in cattle — and its broad implementation in Brazil’s and South America’s dairy industry, where the product is marketed under the KOROVSKI brand.

Yes, this was a well-planned trip involving numerous contacts at various levels. We would like to express our special thanks to the Brazilian hosts for organizing an excellent meeting program and discussions on relevant challenges.

During the visit, we held meetings with the State Secretary for Science and Technology of Mato Grosso, the Director General of the Technological Park, and the Mayor of Várzea Grande. As a result, agreements were reached on joint scientific and technological cooperation in the field of dairy and beef cattle farming in Brazil.

During a meeting at the Secretariat of Agriculture of the state of Mato Grosso, where we were received by the President of EMPAER, Sir Suelme Evangelista Fernandes, interest was expressed in equipping the entire dairy cattle population with sensors over the next six years.
A unified health monitoring system for all livestock will help ensure higher cattle survival rates and deliver significant economic benefits.

We also visited one of the farms of the Bom Futuro group, which hosts a feedlot for bulls raised exclusively for export meat production.
The facility, located in the city of Campo Verde, has a capacity of 5,000 bulls every three months and the visit was conducted under the guidance of the Superintendent of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Sir Leni Rosa Filho.

A working meeting and a major scientific conference were held with faculty and students of the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), along with a presentation of the rapid diagnostic system at the university’s experimental farm in Santo Antônio de Leverger.
There, a rapid mastitis diagnosis was performed on cows pre-selected by UFMT staff.

A particularly noteworthy point was made by Professor Emilio during his speech to the students:

“That’s why students must keep their noses to the wind and explore everything new that appears on the global cattle health monitoring market. Through study and the practical application of innovative solutions comes confidence and full understanding. That is what progress is.
The takeaway: don’t reject — learn and dig deeper. However, if you simply want to deny, live in the past, and refuse to improve your knowledge and experience — then this profession is not for you.”

We also equipped a group of cows with sensors to detect early stages of mastitis and deployed a monitoring system with access granted to the staff of the UFMT university farm.

The team visited the Nossa Senhora da Medalha Milagrosa farm in the city of Jangada and conducted a demonstration of the system’s technological capabilities in rapid diagnostics mode.

As a result of the business trip, the relevant agreements were signed and a work plan for the next two years was established.
