The 159th Carnaross dairy sale, organized alongside Taaffe Auctions Ltd., continued to demonstrate a robust trade in milking cows and heifers.

Held on March 19, the sale saw 164 fresh calved heifers and cows auctioned with no change in the strong dairy trade, as noted by auctioneer Michael Taaffe. The sale was buoyed by high factory prices for underperforming cows, providing farmers the opportunity to reinvest in fresh milk-producing cows.

Factory Prices Influence P grade cows were quoted between €6.10-6.30/kg, reflecting the high demand for well-fleshed milking cows.

During the event, 137 milking cows were sold at an average price of €2,608. Auctioneer Taaffe highlighted increased interest in both high EBI and high-yielding cows. Sample Prices The sale featured impressive transactions, such as Corkoona Rolan Bellbrook sold for €2,900 and Ballydoogan Batman Aileen fetching €2,650.

The demand extended to cows in subsequent lactations, reflecting an eager market focused on boosting milk production. Factors Driving Demand According to Taaffe, factors like favorable factory prices and the optimistic season for grazing contributed to the strong trade.

Farmers are eager to capitalize on favorable conditions and milk prices. The sale concluded with notable transactions, such as Bunacloy Ha Ronald Jomo, producing 38L/day, sold for €2,500. Taaffe emphasized that the current market optimism and conducive conditions are key to this vibrant trade.
