The Rathfriland Mart was a bustling center of activity last Friday, showcasing an impressive array of 450 cattle. The show was marked by the presence of calves up to five months old. A standout of the event was the Aberdeen Angus bull calf, which sold for a top price of £695, belonging to a farmer from Hillsborough.

Calf Sales: The weanling bull calves reached significant highs, with a 428kg specimen from a Kilkeel farmer selling for £1690. The sale of fat cows also saw commendable figures, with a Limousin cow at 664kg fetching £2010.

Dairy and Other Stock: Dairy stock peaked at £2700. Cows and calves combined reached up to £1580, while heifers were traded at a maximum of £2250 for a 650kg Limousin.

Bullocks on Display: The highest price for bullocks was £2360 for a 766kg Aberdeen Angus, exhibiting the strong demand for quality livestock.

Additional Livestock Activities: Besides cattle, there was a noteworthy turnout of sheep during the midweek sale. Fat ewes maintained a good trade, with top prices peaking at £260. Hoggets and fat rams were also in high demand, with competitive pricing observed across different weights and breeds.
