Mizoram and NDDB Collaborate to Boost Dairy Production and Processing
The Mizoram Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited (MULCO) and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening milk production and dairy processing in Mizoram. The signing ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma and Cooperation Minister P.C. Vanlalruata. NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah emphasized the need for structured intervention to help Mizoram achieve significant advancements in the dairy sector.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma highlighted that the agreement not only seeks to enhance milk production but also aims to improve the livelihoods of numerous livestock farmers in the state. He noted the state's traditional engagement in animal husbandry and the availability of suitable land resources, which can be optimized with modern technology and practices.
According to the Bureau of Animal Husbandry & Statistics (BAHS) for 2024–25, Mizoram has the lowest daily milk production in the Northeast, with 64.4 thousand kilograms per day. In response, the NDDB will develop a Comprehensive Dairy Development Plan for Mizoram, providing technical support and assistance, while MULCO will oversee the plan's implementation.
Cooperation Minister Vanlalruata expressed confidence in the collaboration, citing NDDB's proven track record across India. He believes this partnership will significantly strengthen Mizoram's cooperative movement and deliver tangible benefits to livestock farmers.
This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Cooperation's White Revolution 2.0 Flagship Scheme, showcasing a commitment to enhancing dairy capabilities in the region.
