Milma Enhances Milk Procurement Incentives to Strengthen Kerala's Dairy Sector
Kerala's dairy cooperative, Milma, has announced a new initiative aimed at enhancing milk procurement incentives through its Ernakulam Regional Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (ERCMPU). This effort is designed to increase milk supply from farmers across Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, and Idukki districts.
The cooperative has stated that the incentive scheme is focused on providing stronger support to farmers amidst rising production costs and operational challenges in India's dairy sector. By improving financial returns for producers, Milma hopes to stabilize procurement volumes and strengthen local milk collection networks.
Officials have highlighted that the programme underscores Milma's ongoing commitment to cooperative dairy development and farmer welfare. The additional financial support is anticipated to aid small-scale dairy producers in maintaining production levels while promoting greater participation in the organized milk supply chain.
This initiative comes at a time when competition for raw milk procurement is intensifying across India's dairy industry, with processors and cooperatives offering incentives to secure stable milk supplies. The rising regional demand and consumption growth have necessitated stronger farmer engagement and procurement strategies. Milma's move emphasizes the importance of cooperative-led systems in supporting rural livelihoods and bolstering domestic milk production.
