The Dairy stated that the price hike aligns with the Retail Prices Index (RPIX) measure of inflation and is necessary to sustain its operations. Retailers, who purchase milk at wholesale rates, will ultimately determine how much of the increase will be passed on to consumers.

Mark Thompson, Chairman of the Dairy Management Board, acknowledged the challenges posed by the price rise. “We are making every effort to minimize the impact, but unavoidable cost pressures must be reflected in our pricing,” he said.

Currently, milk prices at Guernsey shops vary widely, ranging from £1.75 to over £1.90 per litre. The latest increase is likely to push prices above £2 in some outlets, further highlighting the strain of inflation on essential goods.
