Fire crews successfully extinguished a fire at Fonterra’s Te Rapa plant near Hamilton early Tuesday morning, following a response to reports of smouldering in one of the site’s dryers.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand confirmed the incident began shortly after 3 a.m., with eight fire trucks dispatched to the scene. The blaze was brought under control within a few hours, and no injuries or significant damage were reported.
Fonterra described the event as a “minor issue” but did not provide further details.
“All our people and the plant are safe,” said Alan Van Der Nagel, Fonterra’s Director of New Zealand Manufacturing. “Operations will resume as normal this morning.”
The Te Rapa facility is a key site for the dairy giant, and the swift response ensured minimal disruption to its operations.
