Federation Delays Payments: Bean and Milk Producers Await Compensation

A significant number of Mexican agricultural producers find themselves in financial distress as payments fr om the federal government remain pending. Around 1,500 bean producers and 3,000 milk producers have not been compensated for their products, according to Eraclio Rodríguez Gómez, leader of the National Front of Food Producers.
Since October, bean producers who delivered their harvest have not seen returns on their investments. Milk producers face a similar plight, having experienced delays with payments that linger over four weeks late, briefly alleviated by a single week’s payment, but still leaving three weeks outstanding.
Rodríguez vehemently opposes the government's claim of insufficient funds, citing regular allocations for pensions as proof of available resources. Producers demand prompt payments and adherence to Guaranteed Pricing to sustain their livelihoods.
The discourse highlights broader discontent with the lack of a Fair Trade Law, aiming for equitable access to farm inputs and more fair pricing structures for consumers. Rodríguez points out the incongruence in prices as goods travel from farm to supermarket, wh ere the cost is significantly marked up.
Furthermore, the situation underscores the need for systemic changes to ensure prompt payments and establish justice in agricultural commerce. Despite the touted Guaranteed Price for beans set at 27 pesos, actual financial reciprocation remains to be seen.
