EPSRR and Axton Capital Plan to Develop Restaurant Concepts in Sri Lanka and Oman
The partnership is expected to operate through J M Robertson & Company Limited (JMR), a subsidiary of Axton Capital. At the initial stage, the partners intend to focus on Colombo and Muscat. They may subsequently consider expanding into other cities in Sri Lanka and Oman, as well as additional international markets.
JMR traces its history back to 1845 and is engaged in the coffee and tea trade. The company operates venues under the Department of Coffee brand in Sri Lanka and Oman. JMR’s existing infrastructure is expected to provide a platform for launching and developing new restaurant concepts.
EPSRR has invested in Club Sulaimani Food & Beverages LLP, which develops the Club Sulaimani and CS Signature brands in India. The company is also preparing the EPSRR Le Bistro concept for international markets. In India, the group’s businesses operate in airports, shopping centres and central urban locations.
Riyas Kalliyath, Chairman of EPSRR and Club Sulaimani, said Oman is expected to become the group’s first overseas market, followed by Sri Lanka. In the longer term, the company is considering establishing a presence in other Gulf countries, Europe and the Americas.
Anand R. Iyer, Chief Executive Officer of EPSRR and Club Sulaimani, described the signing of the agreements as the company’s first major step beyond India.
According to Malith Perera, Director of Axton Capital and JMR, JMR’s experience and existing operations in Sri Lanka and Oman will allow the partners to use an established operating platform to introduce new concepts to the market.
The parties have not disclosed the planned opening dates, investment amounts, number of proposed locations or financial terms of the partnership.
