Dairy Industry Expansion in Brazil's Northeast Drives Economic Growth
The dairy industry in Brazil's Northeast is undergoing a period of robust expansion, facilitated by enhanced milk production and substantial industrial investments. According to data from the Banco do Nordeste do Brasil, milk production in the region increased by 14.12% between 2020 and 2024. This growth has been supported by technological advancements, expanded production systems, and genetic improvements across almost all states in the region.
Natville, a prominent player in the dairy sector, has committed over R$ 700 million to bolster its presence in the Northeast. A major project is underway in Batalha, Alagoas, where approximately R$ 500 million is being invested in constructing a facility for producing cheese, cream, and whey. The plant, expected to commence operations in October, will have the capacity to process 600,000 liters of milk daily, generating around 300 direct and over 6,000 indirect jobs, primarily in dairy farming.
In Bahia, Natville is finalizing a complex in Jeremoabo dedicated to producing a new line of fine cheeses, including parmesan, gouda, and reino. The facility is slated to open by the end of July, with the creation of approximately 100 direct and over 500 indirect jobs.
The industrial growth is complemented by regional infrastructure improvements. In April, a natural gas station was inaugurated in Batalha, aimed at supporting major companies in the region, including Natville and Alvoar Lácteos. Additionally, free technical courses are planned to enhance the skills of workers in the dairy supply chain.
Founded in 1996 in Nossa Senhora da Glória, Sergipe, Natville closed 2025 with revenues of R$ 1.3 billion. In its 30th anniversary year, the company aims to achieve R$ 1.5 billion in revenue.
The Northeast's expansion aligns with national trends, as reflected by the IBGE's report that inspected establishments acquired 6.780 billion liters of raw milk in the first quarter of 2026, a 3.3% increase from the previous year. These investments indicate the region's growing role in Brazil's dairy industry, marked by increased production, new industrial projects, infrastructure advancements, and job creation, reinforcing the interior's contribution to the dairy supply chain.
