Colombia Aims to Boost Dairy Exports to Chile
Colombia is at a pivotal stage in strengthening its presence in Chile's dairy market. In a bilateral cooperation effort, the National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (Invima) from Colombia received an audit from the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of Chile. The dual aim is to renew the authorization of Colombian establishments already permitted to export and to evaluate new plants aspiring to enter this dynamic market.

The process will undergo meticulous evaluation of eleven dairy processing plants scattered throughout Colombia. These facilities will be scrutinized by SAG delegates to ensure they meet Chilean sanitary regulations, guaranteeing the quality and safety of the products intended for the neighboring country.

Colombia's export portfolio is both varied and robust, showcasing the broad offerings of the national dairy sector. Products range from basics like milk, powdered milk, and cream, to specialties such as yogurt, kumis, cheese, and butter. Additionally, more niche products like buffalo milk caramel, natural Greek yogurt, buffalo coastal whey, and ricotta are also on the list.

This audit seeks not only to open new commercial avenues but also to reaffirm the mutual trust and commitment to high-quality bilateral trade. Lina Marcela Pineda, head of the International Affairs Office of Invima, emphasized that this process is vital for the development of Colombia's dairy sector, providing producers with the opportunity to access international markets and generate higher revenue.

The success of this initiative is crucial. It is expected to allow Colombia to fortify its position in the Chilean market, diversify its export offers, and importantly, strengthen sanitary cooperation between the two nations. If successful, this initiative will become a key driver for the growth of Colombia's dairy industry in the coming years.
