Chilean technicians from the Agricultural and Livestock Service have arrived in Bolivia to inspect milk production plants for the potential import of three types of milk.

Chilean technicians from the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) have arrived in Bolivia to conduct inspections of milk production plants. The focus is on exploring the potential import of whole UHT milk, flavored milk, and powdered milk from Bolivia.
The initial meeting was held with Juan Miguel Quiroz Ugarte, the director of Bolivia's National Service of Agricultural Health and Food Safety (Senasag). Chilean auditors, including Felipe Guiñez Saavedra and Lucy Rodríguez Caballos, will carry out technical evaluations from March 25 to April 4. These inspections will take place at EBA plants producing whole and flavored UHT milk in San Andrés, Ivirgarzama, Challapata, and PIL Andina's powdered milk facility in Santa Cruz and Warnes, as well as the UHT plant in Cochabamba.
This initiative follows Chile's recognition of Bolivia as a foot-and-mouth disease-free country in August 2023. To address observations related to bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), Bolivia's Senasag implemented an action plan and submitted technical documentation in December 2023.
The inspection includes checks of infrastructure, waste management, and quality controls, which are crucial for ensuring the safety of the products. This inspection is part of Bolivia's broader efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agricultural health following international recognition as a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone in May 2023.
