Arla Foods Plans Robotic Expansion in Oswestry
Arla Foods has submitted plans to Shropshire Council for constructing new infrastructure dedicated to robotic pallet movers at its plant in Oswestry. The facility currently employs over 350 staff and is essential to Arla's cheese cutting, packing, and dispatch operations. The proposal includes building a new 100-square-metre area under permitted development rules without requiring full planning permission.

This space will house a charging bay for robotic forklifts designed to navigate the plant autonomously. Although the specific use of these robots at Oswestry remains unspecified, Arla already operates approximately 90 Automated Guided Vehicles at its Aylesbury site for similar tasks. Should permission be granted, the new building will occupy grassland adjacent to the existing factory.
