The report, which evaluated various aspects including corporate strategy, product (re)formulation, labeling, promotion, accessibility, and transparency, provides a comprehensive overview of the current landscape. Notably, Unilever emerged as a frontrunner with a commendable overall score of 75%, thanks to its clear strategy and commitment to healthier foods.

However, the report also highlights areas of concern, with Red Bull receiving the lowest overall rating of 18%. While the average score of 49% indicates modest improvement since the previous assessment in 2018, there is still considerable variation among companies.

Saputo, a Quebec-based company, stands out with the highest overall score in Canada at 55%, reflecting significant progress compared to previous years. Despite this, there is a clear need for continued efforts to enhance the quality of food products and promote transparency across the board.

One notable area for improvement is the accessibility of healthier foods, where companies received particularly low marks. The report emphasizes the importance of innovation in ensuring the availability and affordability of healthier options, especially in underserved communities and key settings such as schools and hospitals.

While there has been greater willingness among companies to develop healthier products and improve transparency, there remains a lack of action from some stakeholders. This underscores the need for stronger public intervention to address the significant health implications of unhealthy diets in Canada.

In conclusion, the findings of the report underscore the importance of collaborative efforts between government, industry, and other stakeholders to promote healthier eating habits and reduce the burden of diet-related diseases. By prioritizing transparency, innovation, and accessibility, food companies can play a pivotal role in improving public health outcomes across the country.
