UCCL Advocates for Fair Sheep Milk Pricing Amid Industry Conflict

The Union of Farmers of Castilla y León (UCCL) has taken a stand against unfair pricing for sheep milk by lodging a complaint with the Food Chain Ombudsman. The organization is seeking intervention to resolve a longstanding conflict in the sheep dairy sector, where quarterly pricing forced by the industry is leading to unsustainable sales below production costs.

According to UCCL, the new prices under negotiation by dairy industries are detrimental to producers, prompting an urgent call for the intervention of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock to safeguard the livelihoods of sheep milk farmers in Castilla y León. The union emphasizes the need for a reorientation of illegal pricing policies that fail to cover production costs.

While highlighting the need for solidarity among sheep milk farmers, UCCL firmly advises against the signing of any contracts that offer less than 1.40 euros per liter, as part of their strategic efforts to stabilize the industry and ensure fair compensation for producers.
