Sheep milk prices in Spain have plummeted by 18.7% despite a notable decrease in production.

Sheep milk producers in Spain have experienced a significant drop in prices by 18.7% over the last year, according to official data. This decrease in price comes despite a reduction in production at the start of the year.
In February, sheep milk production in Spain reached 33.82 million liters, marking a 7.4% decrease from the 36.51 million liters produced in February 2024. These figures are derived from the 'Report on Milk Deliveries to First Purchasers' by the Sub-Directorate General of Livestock and Game Productions of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery and Food (MAPA).
The decrease in production is partly attributed to the shorter, non-leap February in 2025. Per day comparisons show a 4% reduction from 1.26 million liters in February 2024 to 1.21 million liters in the same month this year, accompanied by a 2.3% production drop in January.
Additionally, the average price for sheep milk has significantly decreased from 13.72 euros per hectograd in February 2024 to 11.15 euros per hectograd this year. Finally, the number of producers has also decreased from 2,820 in February 2024 to 2,622 in February 2025, reflecting a 7% drop.
