Organic Herd, a farmer-owned cooperative, has announced a further increase in its milk price for July, raising it to 51p per litre. This 1p per litre increment, effective from 1 July, reflects a response to the growing demand for organic milk, as confirmed 20 June by the co-op.
Organic Herd Increases Milk Price to 51p per Litre Amid Rising Demand
Sara Ogborne, Director of Membership at Organic Herd, stated, “Our latest price rise reflects the growth in demand we are seeing for our organic milk. The July increase aligns with our commitment to providing our members with incremental, yet sustainable, improvements in their milk price.”

Despite this positive adjustment, the organic milk sector has faced challenges, with production declining due to a drop in consumer demand amid the cost-of-living crisis. Recent data reveals that organic milk production in Britain averaged 1.1 million litres per day in May, a nearly 10% decrease compared to the same period last year.

Moreover, the 2023-2024 milk year saw a 14% reduction in organic production compared to 2022-2023, according to figures published by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).

Organic Herd’s price adjustment aims to support its members and sustain the organic dairy sector through these challenging times, emphasizing the cooperative’s dedication to its farmers’ economic stability and growth.
