Milk Price in Brazil Increased by 19% in January

After a downturn throughout the last quarter of 2024, the price of milk paid to producers increased at the beginning of 2025.

Following a steady decline during late 2024, the milk price that producers received rebounded early in 2025, recording a 19% surge in Brazil. According to the Cepea survey from Esalq/USP, the average price in January stood at 2.65 BRL per liter (approximately 0.46 USD at the current exchange rate), marking a 2.5% rise compared to the previous month and an 18.7% increase from January 2024, adjusted for inflation using the January IPCA.
This upward trend results from increased valuations of certain dairy derivatives and the seasonal drop in milk production across much of Brazil. As the supply is projected to keep decreasing over the coming months, bottoming out around May, it is expected that these conditions will continue to push the prices that producers receive upwards.
