This initiative is part of Müller's commitment to sustainability and future-proofing the dairy industry.

First launched in 2018, the Müller Next Generation programme is a three-year development initiative designed for Müller farmers aged 25-40. The programme aims to equip 25 ambitious young farmers with the skills and support necessary to build sustainable and profitable dairy businesses.

The Next Generation initiative is integral to Müller's broader Sustainability Action Plan, which includes an ambitious goal to reduce emissions on supplying farms by 30% by 2030. The programme addresses key areas such as environmental impact, animal welfare, responsible sourcing, and sustainability practices.

Richard Collins, Head of Agriculture at Müller Milk & Ingredients, emphasized the importance of the initiative: "As we work to create a better future for the dairy sector, we need to continue to tackle carbon emissions, secure the next generation of talent, and drive supply chain resilience."

Participants in the programme will benefit from tailored workshops, farm visits, keynote speakers, and site tours at Müller facilities. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics including the environment, sustainability, leadership, market analysis, succession planning, marketing, and business improvement.

Müller operates through two primary divisions: Müller Milk & Ingredients and Müller Yogurt & Desserts. The company sources milk from 1,300 farmers across Britain and produces a variety of branded and private label dairy products.

"We know from the first two cohorts that there are many dairy farmers in the UK with great talent and passion for the industry, and we're excited to welcome applications for the next round of future elite dairy farmers," added Collins.

The application process for the third cohort of Müller Next Generation is open until July 26, 2024, with the first meeting scheduled for the autumn.
