Lakeland Dairies has taken a unique approach to highlight the significance of the dairy sector by sending empty milk cartons to all 27 MEP candidates standing in the Midlands NorthWest constituency. The symbolic gesture aims to underscore the crucial role of dairy farming in rural Ireland.
Each candidate received an empty carton of Lakeland Dairies' Champion milk brand, accompanied by an appeal urging them to ensure that Europe never envisions a rural Ireland devoid of milk production.
This initiative comes after a challenging year for Lakeland Dairies, which reported a €300,000 drop in turnover, decreasing from €1.9 billion in 2022 to €1.6 billion in 2023. Despite the financial setback, the co-op processed two billion litres of milk last year, sourced from 3,200 farmers across 17 counties on the island of Ireland.
By sending these empty milk cartons, Lakeland Dairies emphasizes the vital importance of the dairy industry and seeks to garner support from future MEPs to sustain milk production in rural Ireland.
