Kerry Dairy Ireland announced on February 17 that it will pay suppliers 53.5c/L, including VAT, for milk delivered in January, reflecting a steady upward trajectory from 50c/L in December and 48.5c/L in October. The price includes a 3c/L top-up and quality bonuses, pushing the EU standard price with 3.4% protein and 4.2% butterfat to 58.5c/L, while the average milk solids return for January stands at 63.2c/L.

The processor acknowledged a recent softening of dairy prices in Europe due to easing concerns over a foot-and-mouth outbreak but remains optimistic about global demand, which is expected to support prices as peak production season approaches.

Lakeland Dairies, another key player, maintained its January base price at 49.75c/L, including VAT, with sustainability incentives and out-of-season payments bolstering farmer returns. Northern Ireland suppliers will receive 40.8p/L with additional seasonal payments.

The sustained price increases by major Irish processors underscore the resilience of the nation’s dairy industry, even as it navigates complex global market dynamics and regulatory shifts.
