Kazakhstan's Ice Cream Market Shows Stability After Record Growth
In 2023, the annual production growth of ice cream in Kazakhstan reached 25.6%, with a total of 51.6 thousand tonnes produced. The total market capacity of ice cream in Kazakhstan in 2023 amounted to 56.3 thousand tonnes, equating to 2.98 kg per capita annually—23% higher than in 2022.
“This growth dynamic was both encouraging for producers and concerning, as such rapid growth could potentially lead to a temporary decline in 2024. The 2024 season began unevenly: in some months production increased, while in others it fell—affected by weather conditions and inventory levels of local producers," commented Dmitry Dokin.
Over the 11-month period, production volume in Kazakhstan's ice cream market dropped by 2.1%, from 50.4 thousand tonnes to 49.3 thousand tonnes, which was better than market participants had anticipated.
The expert also highlighted that while imports to Kazakhstan declined slightly by 4%, ice cream exports surged by 69.3%. However, domestic consumption in Kazakhstan fell by 12.1%.
In monetary terms, sales adjusted for inflation remained stable, decreasing slightly from 67.07 billion tenge to 67.02 billion tenge.
