Finnish Valio intends to lay off more than 100 employees

Valio employs a total of approximately 4,300 people, of which 3,700 work in Finland.

“The operating environment has been very challenging for us for a long time. There are several issues behind the change talks: increasing costs of Valio's own operations, weakening demand for consumer goods and falling global market prices for industrial products. All of this has put our profitability at risk. Unfortunately, for these reasons we have to start negotiations on changes,” says Marianna Tammela, Director responsible for HR, Strategy and Innovation.

The company notes that about 3,400 dairy farms are owned by Valio through cooperatives, and Valio pays the farms profits from its business.

The company estimates that negotiations on the changes will last six weeks.
