Danone Phases Out Nutri-Score from Drinkable Yoghurts Following Rating Downgrade

French food giant Danone has announced it will remove the Nutri-Score nutritional rating from the packaging of its drinkable yoghurts, following a downgrade in their scores. Beginning in September 2024, this decision will affect popular brands such as Actimel, Danonino, Hi-Pro, Danone, and Activia.
The removal follows a 2023 update to the Nutri-Score’s calculation method, which resulted in a drop for many of Danone’s products. For instance, Actimel’s score fell from A or B to D, and Danonino’s yoghurt drink for children also dropped to a D, now classified alongside sugary soft drinks.
Danone has expressed concerns about the updated scoring system, pointing out that the spoonable Danonino yoghurt still retains a B rating despite having similar nutritional values to the drinkable version. The company is contesting the updated scoring methodology while proceeding with the phase-out of Nutri-Score on its drinkable dairy and plant-based products.
