Dairygold is celebrating a successful week, having secured four prestigious awards that highlight the excellence of its suppliers and the cooperative's ongoing commitment to sustainability and quality in the dairy and tillage sectors.
The recognition underscores Dairygold’s dedication to high standards across its operations and partnerships.
Aidan and Derval Kennedy, Dairygold suppliers and winners of the 2023 Milk Quality Award, were honored as the Overall Winners of the 2024 National Dairy Council and Kerrygold Quality Milk Award. Their farm in Cahir, Co. Tipperary, exemplifies excellence in milk quality, animal welfare, farm infrastructure, and sustainable practices. The Kennedys were evaluated by an independent judging panel that assessed critical factors including soil and grassland management, animal care, and overall technical performance.
Dairygold’s success extended to the Teagasc and FBD Sustainability Awards, where Brendan and John Walsh, previous Milk Quality Award recipients, were celebrated as the Overall Winners and Dairy Enterprise Winners of the 2024 Environmental Sustainable Farmer of the Year. The Walshes have incorporated sustainable practices on their farm, such as maintaining hedgerows to support wildlife habitats and growing clover to reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers.
In the same ceremony, Dairygold Tillage Supplier Tom Barry earned the Tillage Enterprise Award for his efforts to improve soil health and minimize artificial fertilizer use, further exemplifying Dairygold's commitment to sustainable farming.
The cooperative’s achievements also included winning the Best Energy Achievement in Food and Beverage Award at the Business Energy Achievement Awards. Dairygold was recognized for its strides in sustainable energy sourcing and increasing energy efficiency throughout its operations. Orla O’Connor accepted the award on behalf of Dairygold, expressing pride in the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
Dairygold extends congratulations to all its award-winning suppliers, acknowledging their significant contributions to both quality and sustainability. The cooperative remains committed to advancing sustainable agricultural practices and supporting its suppliers in achieving industry-leading standards.
