Dairygold has introduced a strategic initiative to support its members by offering a €15 per ton rebate on bulk mainline dairy and beef feeds. This rebate applies to feed deliveries made between Monday, August 12, and Friday, September 6, 2024, and is designed to alleviate the challenges faced by farmers due to adverse weather conditions and a late spring.

As part of this initiative, Dairygold has also launched "GrassBuilder," a specially formulated and cost-effective ration available to all customers. This product aims to assist farmers in building their grass and fodder stocks, maximizing milk production, and ultimately increasing their profit margins as the year progresses.

Liam Stack, Dairygold’s Technical Adviser, acknowledged the difficulties encountered during this growing season, which have resulted in reduced grass growth rates, lower milk volumes, and diminished fodder reserves on farms. "A dairy cow still has the potential to generate over €1,000 in milk revenue from now until year-end," Stack emphasized. "The rebate is intended to help Dairygold milk suppliers maximize milk production through the end of the year while ensuring they have adequate winter forage supplies."

In conjunction with the rebate, Dairygold’s technical team has developed a comprehensive six-point action plan to guide farmers in assessing and managing their winter forage needs. The plan includes the following steps:

Complete a fodder budget to accurately assess current forage reserves.
Maximize milk volumes to enhance profit margins through year-end.
Grow the necessary grass to build a robust grass wedge.
Reduce grass demand by removing non-essential stock from the dairy platform.
Source additional fodder to supplement existing supplies.
Adjust feeding strategies as required to meet forage and production goals.

Stack also encouraged all milk suppliers to consult with their local area sales managers to develop tailored farm-specific plans, emphasizing that each farm's circumstances are unique.

This announcement follows two previous feed rebates offered by Dairygold earlier in the year, in April and June. Additionally, in April, Dairygold extended the availability of interest-free credit for the purchase of farm inputs and provided personalized advice on managing fodder supplies.

This series of initiatives underscores Dairygold's commitment to supporting its members through challenging times and ensuring the long-term sustainability and profitability of their farming operations.
