Arla Foods has announced the closure of its Melton Mowbray creamery in the UK after an unsuccessful attempt to find a buyer for the site. The dairy major had put the facility, known locally as Tuxford and Tebbutt, up for sale in January but failed to attract a suitor.

The creamery, located in Leicestershire in England’s East Midlands, employs approximately 60 people and is known for producing Stilton cheese. In a statement on June 25, Arla Foods said, “This morning, we have spoken to our colleagues who are affected by these proposals and we are now entering into a period of consultation with those colleagues. Our priority right now is to support our colleagues impacted during this challenging period.”

The decision to cease operations follows months of efforts to sell the site, which ultimately did not result in a buyer.
