Kazakhstan's Livestock Industry Reaches 3 Trillion Tenge
Growth in Livestock Numbers and Production
There is growth in nearly all major types of livestock in the country:
- Cattle — +1.7%, 8.4 million heads
- Horses — +6.7%, 8.4 million heads
- Poultry — +4.4%, 48.3 million heads
Record Dynamics of Export Indicators
In 10 months:
- Beef exports increased 1.6 times to 30.4 thousand tons
- Mutton exports increased 1.8 times to 25.1 thousand tons
- 152 thousand heads of cattle
- 1.2 million heads of small ruminants
Preferential Financing and Adoption of Foreign Technologies
To expand export potential, the state is launching preferential loans for feedlots for the first time — 5% per annum, for a period of 12 months. 50 billion tenge has been allocated, with applications for 18.2 billion tenge already approved.
Simultaneously, from 2024, Kazakhstan is implementing the Australian model of beef cattle farming, which includes:
- Rotational pasture use
- Local feed supply
- Specialized compound feeds
- Development of processing and feed enterprises
Poultry Farming: Aiming for Full Self-Sufficiency
In recent years, 6 poultry farms with a capacity of 70 thousand tons of meat have been built, increasing the self-sufficiency level from 58% to 79%.
The state forecasts:
- Increase in production from 360 thousand tons to 505 thousand tons
- Launch of 8 new projects with a capacity of 241 thousand tons in 2026–2028
By 2026, four factories will be operational, reaching 90% self-sufficiency, and by 2027, fully meeting the country's needs.
Dairy Industry: Focus on Northern Kazakhstan and Farm Construction
The key success is the implementation of the Northern Kazakhstan model:
- 63 dairy farms with a total capacity of 352 thousand tons of milk have been built
- 2 more facilities will be commissioned by the end of the year
- 43 projects will be completed by 2027
New Comprehensive Livestock Development Plan
By the President's order, a Comprehensive Plan for sector development is being developed, which includes:
- Preferential replenishment of working capital — 5% per annum
- Financing for breeding stock purchase — 6% per annum, totaling 240 billion tenge
- A new loan product for pasture livestock farming — 6% in Kostanay and Ulytau regions
- Development of raw material processing
- Creation of service procurement centers (wool, hides)
- Preparation of human resources for the industry
