Latvia's iconic lemon-flavored Vēsma ice cream, part of the Tio brand, has made a stylish comeback with a "retro" design refresh and an exciting expansion of its product line. The relaunch includes a new, lighter flavor offered in a wafer cone and two innovative vegan-friendly sorbet options on sticks, marking a significant step forward in the brand's evolution.
This reinvention of Vēsma is driven by a sustainability initiative fr om Latvia’s premier dairy company, Food Union, focusing on creating nutritionally "lighter" dairy products and vegan options crafted solely from fruits and berries. The new formulations were developed at Food Union's ice cream competence center in Riga. The project, which involved an investment of approximately 40,000 euros, aims to modernize Vēsma and reintroduce it to the Latvian market with a fresh perspective.
Ģirts Liniņš, Brand Manager at Food Union Ice Cream, expressed his enthusiasm for the new offerings. "The hotter the summer, the cooler the Vēsma ice cream, and vice versa. Regardless of whether it's a warm day or a cooler evening, Vēsma remains a delightful treat that captures the essence of summer while aligning perfectly with contemporary healthy lifestyle choices," he stated. The updated line includes Vēsma ice creams made from either skim cheese whey or entirely vegan-friendly ingredients.
The range now features a novel green apple flavor in a wafer cup, alongside the beloved lemon-flavored Vēsma, which continues to be produced using the original recipe but now sports new packaging at Food Union’s primary European facility, Rīgas piena kombināts, wh ere it has been manufactured since 1975.
Additionally, in a bid to cater to the growing vegan market, Vēsma has introduced two sorbet varieties on sticks, made exclusively from plant-based materials and featuring authentic raspberry and mango flavors. These new additions aim to position Vēsma as a leading producer of industrially crafted vegan-friendly ice cream in Latvia.
With these innovations, Vēsma not only revisits its roots with nostalgic designs but also embraces modern dietary trends, offering something special for both long-time fans and new consumers looking for healthier, plant-based options.
