Ukraine Sees Surge in Dairy Exports Despite Global Price Challenges

In May 2024, Ukraine witnessed a significant increase in dairy exports both month-on-month and year-on-year, as reported by Ukrainian media citing the Infagro information and analytical agency. This surge occurred despite the prevailing low prices in the global market.
According to Infagro's experts, the rise in exports is attributed to a substantial increase in processing activities, overshadowing the relatively weaker growth in domestic sales compared to last year. Notably, the exports of butter and cheese products were the lowest among Ukraine's main dairy commodities. However, there was a marked increase in the exports of spreads, casein, and whey powder in May 2024 compared to the previous year.
Conversely, the imports of dairy products such as butter, rennet cheese, and processed cheese declined in May 2024. Contrary to expectations, cheese imports did not grow due to rising prices for milk and dairy products in Europe, particularly from Poland, Ukraine's primary supplier.
"Dairy exports are expected to grow further in June, while imports are likely to decrease," Infagro stated.
