The Backlash Against Anti-Dairy Advert: Advocates Defend Dairy Consumption

Rural and farming campaigners have expressed strong opposition to an upcoming anti-dairy advertisement that is set to be screened in cinemas across the country later this year. The Viva! advertisement, which has been described as 'hysterical' by critics, portrays a vampiric figure taking a baby to symbolize dairy practices.
The ad, which describes traditional dairy practices as sinister, has prompted advocates to encourage cinema-goers to enjoy ice cream in solidarity with dairy farmers. Johnnie Furse, spokesman for the Countryside Alliance, voiced strong criticism, describing the advert as 'biased' and 'out of touch'.
According to the British Dietitians Association, dairy plays an essential role in a balanced diet by providing significant portions of calcium and Vitamin B12 intake. With reports of a resurgence in dairy consumption affecting the sales of vegan brands like Oatly, traditional dairy fare remains widely supported.
The controversy isn’t new for Viva!, with previous adverts banned for misleading content. Despite this, advocates like Furse remain unfazed, promoting the support of British farmers through continued dairy consumption.
