Tetra Pak Promotes Sustainable Cheese Production
In celebration of World Cheese Day on March 27th, Tetra Pak, a global leader in food packaging and processing solutions, is championing sustainable cheese production. This dairy industry sector, valued at over 20 billion pesos and producing approximately 250,000 tons annually mainly in Jalisco, Chiapas, Chihuahua, and Guanajuato, faces significant operational challenges concerning sustainability.

Traditionally, water in whey and other nutrient-rich elements was disposed of. However, with modern technology, particularly membrane filtration systems, it's now possible to recover this water for various uses, enhancing environmental footprint and operational efficiency.

Salvador Alvarado, Processing Solutions Manager at Tetra Pak Mexico, highlighted that 'with membrane filtration technology, water from whey can be reused for equipment cleaning and other production processes,' showcasing a significant step towards minimizing effluents and water usage, vital in the face of climate change-related challenges.
