A recent landslide on the Bogotá-Villavicencio corridor could lead to increased costs for meat and milk in Bogotá.
Supply Disruptions in Bogotá as Landslide Hits Critical Transport Route

The Bogotá-Villavicencio corridor has been rendered inaccessible for five days due to a landslide at kilometer 18+600. This blockage has significantly impacted the transportation of vital supplies such as meat and milk to Colombia's capital. Alternative routes have been mobilized to facilitate transport, but the logistical shift could see consumer prices rising by 15% to 17%.

The impact is substantial on the dairy and meat market in Bogotá. Approximately 400,000 liters of milk, valued at around 470 million pesos, fail to reach their destination daily, highlighting the fragility of regional supply chains. In the beef sector, nearly 1,500 bovines are needed each day, with 60% reportedly sourced from the Llanos Orientales area now facing a bottleneck.

The government is working towards a temporary solution to restore route accessibility within the next 72 hours, weather permitting. Meanwhile, producers and logistic companies are wary of the economic implications, with price sensitivity already being sensed in the marketplace.
