Sidel launches a very small and ultra-light PET bottle for dairy products

With Sidel's new ultra-lightweight bottle, manufacturers can benefit from the increased sustainability demands of PET, the company said. Not only is it the most affordable plastic on the market, but it is also the only food-grade plastic that is recycled on a bottle-to-bottle basis.
By switching to PET, manufacturers can achieve cost reductions of up to 40% when switching from polystyrene to PET and up to 20% when switching from HDPE.
Laurent Naveau, Head of Packaging Innovation at Sidel, says: “Our new size has a best-in-class bottle weight of just 3.9g for the 100ml extended shelf life bottle and 5.4g for the aseptic bottle. per 100 ml, which is achieved due to the special design of the preform. This new preform design is designed to contain 100% recycled PET (rPET) and also offers low blow pressures below 15 bar. Sidel’s new PET mini bottle guarantees manufacturers full product integrity while also providing compatibility with a range of safe and convenient closure solutions.”
The new bottle size is compatible with the company's Aseptic Combi Predis Fma - the simplest and fastest aseptic solution on the market with dry decontamination of preforms. It offers a safe, hygienic and cost-effective way to package storage-sensitive products, delivering superior taste and long shelf life with minimal use of water and chemicals.
Likewise, the bottle is also suitable for high production speeds of up to 66,000 bottles per hour.
