Shepherds Purse Celebrates 35th Anniversary with Launch of Organic Yorkshire Blue Cheese
Crafted with meticulous care over 12 months, the Soil Association-approved Organic Yorkshire Blue boasts the distinct flavor profile that cheese aficionados have come to expect from Shepherds Purse. The key ingredient is Acorn Organic Dairy's organic milk, sourced from cows grazing on the lush pastures of Yorkshire and the Durham Dales. This endeavor underscores Shepherds Purse's commitment to sustainability and quality, aligning with the growing consumer demand for organic products.

The launch of Organic Yorkshire Blue signifies the beginning of a broader initiative to expand Shepherds Purse's organic offerings. With plans to introduce organic versions of its other popular cow's milk cheeses, the company aims to provide a comprehensive range of organic delights to discerning palates.

Caroline Bell, joint managing director of Shepherds Purse cheese, expressed her enthusiasm for the new venture, stating, "We're thrilled to introduce the organic iteration of our beloved Yorkshire Blue cheese in collaboration with Acorn Organic Dairy. This milestone launch coincides with our 35th anniversary, underscoring our ongoing commitment to artisanal cheese making, health, and sustainability."

The timing of this release aligns with the growing consumer interest in organic food. According to the Soil Association's annual report, the organic food and drink market experienced a 2% growth in 2023, reaching a valuation of £3.2 billion. This upward trend reflects a broader shift towards conscious consumption and sustainable practices.

Founded by Judy Bell MBE in the 1980s, Shepherds Purse remains a family-owned and operated business, now led by her daughters, Caroline Bell and Katie Matten. Their cheeses, renowned for their quality and flavor, are available nationwide in major retailers, farm shops, independent delicatessens, and specialty cheese stores.

The launch of Organic Yorkshire Blue represents not only a culinary triumph for Shepherds Purse but also a testament to its enduring legacy of excellence in cheese making. As consumer preferences continue to evolve, Shepherds Purse remains dedicated to crafting artisanal cheeses that delight the senses while embodying the values of sustainability and quality.
