Dairy Market in Russia Continues to Decline: Sales Drop by 2.8% Over the Year
Despite the decline in volume, the market is showing growth in monetary terms—ranging from 6.7% to 24.6% depending on the category. The main factor is the rise in dairy product prices. According to Rosstat, in the first seven months of 2025, butter prices increased by 34%, and milk by 22%.
The greatest reduction in demand was recorded in the categories of butter and margarine (-11.2%), as well as ultra-pasteurized milk (-11.1%).
The company 'Milk Logic' (formerly H&N and Danone; brands 'Aktibio', 'Prostokvashino') confirms that the trend of declining consumption has been observed since the end of 2024 and is directly related to inflationary pressure on consumers.
'The decline in demand is primarily due to rising prices and changes in consumer behavior. However, we do not expect further significant declines - the market will stabilize,' the company reported.
Some categories, on the contrary, are showing growth. Sales of cottage cheese granules increased by 11.2%, and thick yogurts by 6.6%. Analysts attribute this to the growing popularity of high-protein foods and consumers' focus on 'healthy eating'.
