Following a successful joint venture in Sri Lanka, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) aims to extend the Amul model of milk cooperatives to Kenya.
The NDDB, in collaboration with the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), signed a stakeholder agreement for the joint venture in Sri Lanka, marking the first international application of the Amul model.
Chairman Minesh Shah expressed hope that the model implemented in Sri Lanka could be replicated to benefit small dairy farmers in Kenya. A delegation from Kenya recently visited NDDB, Amul, Indian Immunologicals, and IDMC Ltd in Anand.
The NDDB and GCMMF plan to hold a 51% stake together in the joint venture entity in Sri Lanka. The foundation stone laying ceremony of the National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India (NCDFI) was attended by Union Minister for Cooperation Amit Shah and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
